Lord Jagannath, Baladeva and Subhadra Maharani ride out on chariots to bless everyone — the festival of the Lord of the Universe.

Significance of this day

Ratha Yatra commemorates the Lord leaving Dvaraka to return to Vrindavan, drawn by the loving desire of the residents of Vraja. Sri Chaitanya Mahaprabhu danced before the chariot in Puri every year in the deepest ecstasy of separation.

Since the deities of our temple are Sri Sri Jagannath, Baladeva and Subhadra Maharani, this is the great annual festival of ISKCON Asansol.

Scripture states that even one who sees the Lord on the chariot, or takes a few steps with the ropes in hand, is freed from repeated birth and death.

How it is observed at ISKCON Asansol

  • Chariot procession through the city with kirtan parties, flower offerings and free distribution of prasadam.
  • Snana Yatra, the ceremonial bathing of the deities, precedes the festival, followed by the Anavasara period and Netrotsava.

Dates follow the authentic Gaudiya Vaishnava calendar observed at ISKCON Mayapur, calculated for our region. Timings for fasting and breaking the fast are announced at the temple.
