Last day of the third Caturmasya month

25OCT
Sunday2026

The sacred month of Damodara — lamp offerings and vows that multiply the benefit of every devotional act.

Significance of this day

The month of Kartik commemorates Mother Yashoda binding baby Krishna with rope — the pastime that gives Him the name Damodara, 'bound at the belly by love'.

Scriptures state that devotional service performed during Kartik in Vrindavan or before the deities yields many times the usual spiritual result.

Devotees take a vow (vrata) for the month — extra chanting, reading, or giving up a favourite item.

How it is observed at ISKCON Asansol

  • Daily offering of a ghee lamp to Sri Damodara with the singing of the Damodarastakam.
  • Increased chanting, scriptural reading and simple vows kept for the whole month.

Dates follow the authentic Gaudiya Vaishnava calendar observed at ISKCON Mayapur, calculated for our region. Timings for fasting and breaking the fast are announced at the temple.
