Radhastami: Appearance of Srimati Radharani

The appearance day of Srimati Radharani, the embodiment of pure devotion and the dearest devotee of Sri Krishna.

Significance of this day

Srimati Radharani appeared in Barsana as the daughter of Vrishabhanu Maharaja on the eighth day of the bright fortnight of Bhadra.

She is the personification of hladini-shakti, Krishna's pleasure potency — devotees pray to Her because Krishna cannot refuse anyone She recommends.

On this day devotees are permitted darshan of Her lotus feet, which are normally covered by Her garments.

How it is observed at ISKCON Asansol

• Fasting till noon, special abhishek and new outfits for Srimati Radharani.
• Offering of flowers, singing of Sri Radhika-stava and Radha prayers, followed by feast prasadam.
