Balarama Purnima — the appearance of Lord Balarama, Krishna's elder brother and the original spiritual master.

Significance of this day

Lord Balarama is the first expansion of Sri Krishna and the source of all spiritual strength; without His mercy no one can approach Krishna.

He is worshipped as the adi-guru, the original teacher, and as Nityananda Prabhu in Chaitanya Mahaprabhu's pastimes.

His pastimes with the plough and club show that He protects the devotees and removes obstacles from the path of bhakti.

How it is observed at ISKCON Asansol

• Fasting till noon, abhishek of Lord Balarama, kirtan and feast prasadam.
