Sri Vamsivadana Thakura — Appearance

An observance honouring a great Vaishnava teacher in our disciplic succession.

Significance of this day

The Gaudiya Vaishnava calendar honours the appearance and disappearance days of the acharyas — the six Gosvamis of Vrindavan, Narottama Dasa Thakura, Bhaktivinoda Thakura, Bhaktisiddhanta Sarasvati Thakura and many others.

A disappearance day is not an occasion of mourning: the acharya is eternally present through his instructions, and devotees observe the day by hearing about his life and teachings.

How it is observed at ISKCON Asansol

• Fasting till noon (on many such days), a class on the acharya's life and contribution, offering of prayers and feast prasadam.

Dates follow the authentic Gaudiya Vaishnava calendar observed at ISKCON Mayapur, calculated for our region. Timings for fasting and breaking the fast are announced at the temple.
